Forgiveness as a Way of Life
Reading: Ephesians 4:31-32; Matthew 18:21-35
Devotional:
You only need forgiveness when you've been hurt. This means God's command to forgive assumes you'll be wounded by others—especially within the church. Jesus, gasping for breath on the cross with blood obscuring His vision, still prayed, "Father, forgive them." That's the standard we're called to reach. Not because we're strong enough, but because His Spirit empowers us. When someone wrongs you, disappoints you, or betrays your trust, you face a choice: hold onto bitterness or extend grace. Unforgiveness is a prison where you're both the guard and the inmate. But when you forgive as Christ forgave you—completely, sacrificially, repeatedly—you unlock freedom for yourself and reflect God's character to a watching world. Who do you need to forgive today? Don't wait until you feel like it. Forgive because He first forgave you.
Reflection Question:
Where do you need to choose forgiveness over bitterness?
