Returning to Your First Love
Reading: Revelation 2:1-7
Devotional:
The church at Ephesus had impressive credentials—sound doctrine, hard work, perseverance, and discernment. Yet Jesus confronted them with a sobering truth: they had abandoned their first love. It's possible to do all the right religious activities while losing the heart connection. Like a marriage that becomes routine, our relationship with Christ requires intentional cultivation. Affections don't maintain themselves; they atrophy without attention. Reflect on when you first encountered Jesus. What captivated your heart then? What has changed? Jesus doesn't want your dutiful compliance; He desires your passionate devotion. Today, ask Him to show you where you've replaced intimacy with activity, and take one step back toward that first love.
