Carrying the Cross for Others
Reading: Matthew 16:24-26; Galatians 6:2
Devotional:
Taking up your cross doesn't mean enduring your personal struggles—it means suffering for others' sake. Jesus didn't die for His own sins; He carried yours. When you choose to love someone who's hurt you, serve someone who's ungrateful, or remain committed to someone who's difficult, you're carrying a cross. This is costly love. It means absorbing pain that isn't your fault, extending grace that isn't deserved, and sacrificing your comfort for another's good. This kind of love transforms hearts. When people see you love them at their worst, when they've done everything to push you away yet you remain, something breaks inside them. They glimpse Christ through you. Who in your life needs you to carry their cross? What relationship requires you to die to yourself? This is where your faith becomes visible and authentic.
Reflection Question:
How can you demonstrate costly love to someone this week?
