The Will of God Over the Passing World

Reading: 1 John 2:17 -- The world and its desires are temporary, but the one who does the will of God lives forever. Also consider Matthew 6:24, where the impossibility of serving two masters is made plain.
Devotional: Everything the world offers has an expiration date. The pleasures, the status, the possessions, the approval of people who do not know God -- all of it is passing away. John does not say this to make life feel small. He says it to make eternity feel real. The man or woman who does the will of God is not missing out on life. They are choosing the only life that does not end. This is not complicated theology. It is a daily choice between what feels satisfying right now and what is actually true. You cannot take your truck, your bank account, or your reputation through the door of eternity. You can take your obedience.
Reflection Questions:
  • What decisions are you currently making based on what the world values rather than what God values?
  • How does the reality of eternity change the way you think about your daily choices?
Practical Application: Before making a significant decision this week -- financial, relational, or otherwise -- pause and ask one question: Is this the will of God or the pull of the world? Write down your honest answer before you act.
