Loving Your Brothers and Sisters

Reading: 1 John 2:9-11; John 13:34-35
Devotional: John makes a striking declaration: to claim to be in the light while harboring hatred toward a fellow believer is to still be walking in darkness. In John 13, Jesus tells His disciples that love for one another is the mark by which the world will recognize His followers. This is not a suggestion — it is the standard. Church hurt is real. Disagreements between believers are real. Differences in doctrine and worship style are real. But none of these things justify hatred. Love does not require agreement. It requires a decision. The church's witness to the world depends on whether we can love each other well.
Personal Reflection: Is there a brother or sister in Christ — perhaps in another church or community — toward whom you are harboring bitterness or contempt? What step can you take today toward reconciliation?
