The Cost of the Cross and the Weight of Grace
Reading: Isaiah 53:4-6; 1 Peter 2:24
Devotional: Grace is not cheap. Every time we choose sin casually, assuming forgiveness will follow without consequence, we are in danger of treating the cross as a transaction rather than a sacrifice. Isaiah describes in vivid terms what was endured on our behalf -- not as a theological concept, but as physical, brutal reality. Peter connects that suffering directly to our healing and our freedom from sin. The cross was not simply a mechanism for forgiveness. It was the full weight of every human failure placed on one who bore it willingly. To know this deeply is to find sin less and less appealing, not because of fear, but because of love.
Reflection: Have you ever considered what it means to make light of the cross by continuing in deliberate sin?
Practical Application: Read Isaiah 53 slowly and aloud. Let each verse land before moving to the next. End with a prayer of gratitude that is specific -- name what he bore for you personally.
