The Freedom of Confession
Reading: James 5:16 — This verse instructs believers to confess their sins to one another and pray for each other so that healing may come.
Devotional: There is a reason God did not design confession to be only a private transaction between you and him. He built the church to be a community of accountability, healing, and restoration. Confession to another person requires humility, and humility is the very posture that positions us to receive grace. Many believers carry wounds and struggles for years — not because God is unwilling to heal, but because they have never spoken the thing out loud to another human being. The weight of a secret sin is enormous. The moment it is spoken in a safe, trusted relationship, something breaks. Not you — the hold the sin has on you. This is not about public shame. It is about finding one person, one trusted friend or mentor or pastor, and saying out loud the thing you have been carrying alone. James says that when you do, healing follows. That is not a suggestion. That is a promise.
Practical Application: If you do not already have a person in your life with whom you can be spiritually honest, pray specifically today for God to bring that person into your life. If you do have that person, reach out to them this week.
