Walking in the Light Together

Reading: 1 John 1:7 — This verse teaches that when we walk in God's light, we experience genuine fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus continually cleanses us from sin.
Devotional: One of the most uncomfortable truths in Scripture is that walking in the light is not a solo journey. The verse does not say that walking in the light gives you a better quiet time or a more peaceful morning. It says you will have fellowship with one another. Community is the evidence of a life lived in the light. The church is not a collection of individuals who happen to sit in the same room. It is a body of people who, because they are walking toward the same light, inevitably walk toward each other. That means the person you find difficult to love, the one whose background is nothing like yours, the one whose story makes you uncomfortable — that person is your fellow traveler in the light. Avoiding them is not holiness. Loving them is. The blood of Jesus does not just cleanse your private sins. It makes possible the kind of radical, inconvenient, cross-cultural community that the world cannot manufacture on its own.
Practical Application: Identify one person in your church or community whom you have kept at arm's length. Take one concrete step this week to move toward them — a conversation, a meal, a simple word of encouragement.
