Permission to Let It Die
Reading: John 8:34-36
Devotional: Jesus makes a sobering declaration: everyone who commits sin is a slave to it. Sin never delivers the freedom it promises. It only tightens its grip over time. Like the man in C.S. Lewis's allegory who wanted his lizard silenced rather than killed, many of us want relief from sin without the surrender that true freedom requires. We ask God to quiet the consequences while secretly protecting the cause. But Jesus offers something far greater than management of sin — He offers complete liberation from it. He has the power to break every chain. The only question is whether you will give Him permission.
Reflection Question: Are you asking God to silence your sin or to truly remove it? What is the difference in your daily life?
Practical Application: Write out an honest prayer today that does not ask God simply for relief from consequences. Instead, ask Him specifically for the courage and willingness to fully surrender the sin itself. Be specific and direct with Him.
