The Danger of Spiritual Dehydration

Reading: Psalm 63:1-4

Devotional: In Psalm 63:1-4, David writes from a dry and weary place -- literally a desert -- and describes his soul longing for God the way a parched body longs for water. He does not pretend the dryness is not real. He names it. Then he turns his eyes toward what he knows to be true about God's love and presence. Spiritual dehydration rarely happens all at once. It happens gradually -- one skipped morning with God, one week of letting busyness crowd out prayer, one month of scrolling instead of sitting still. The signs show up slowly: short temper, anxiety, a creeping sense of emptiness. If you recognize those signs today, do not be discouraged. Recognizing thirst is the first step toward being filled.

Reflection: Have you been honest with yourself about how dry your spirit may actually be right now? What habits have been quietly draining you?

Practical Application: Follow David's example in Psalm 63. Write three sentences -- one that honestly names where you are, one that recalls something true about God's character, and one that expresses your desire to seek him.
