Daily Devotion 09/02/26

Reading: Luke 24:13-35 -- Two disciples walk the road to Emmaus, grieving and confused after the crucifixion. A stranger joins them and walks alongside them, opening the Scriptures to them. It is only when they sit at the table and he breaks the bread that their eyes are opened and they recognize him as Jesus -- and then he vanishes from their sight.

Devotional: Jesus was with those two disciples the entire journey, and they did not know it. He was speaking, walking, and drawing near, yet they were too consumed by their grief and confusion to recognize him. This is not a story unique to them. Many believers walk through painful seasons asking where God is, while he is quite literally beside them, speaking. Recognition requires familiarity. You cannot identify a voice you have never taken time to hear. Daily time in Scripture and prayer is not a religious obligation -- it is how you learn to recognize the One who is always present, especially in the storms.

Reflection: Can you look back on a difficult season and recognize, in hindsight, where God was present even when you could not see it in the moment?

Practical Application: Set aside ten minutes today in complete quiet. No phone, no music, no noise. Simply ask God to make you aware of his presence and then listen. Journal anything that comes to mind.
