Daily Devotion 08/27/26

Reading: Luke 7:44 -- Jesus turns to the woman and then addresses Simon directly, asking whether Simon truly sees her -- not as a problem or an intrusion, but as a person worthy of recognition and dignity.

Devotional: Simon invited Jesus to his table but could not see the people Jesus came to reach. His religious framework had trained him to categorize, judge, and maintain distance from those he considered unworthy. Jesus interrupted that framework with a simple question: do you see this woman? Seeing people the way Jesus sees them requires more than physical awareness. It requires a willingness to set aside your own comfort, your own assumptions, and your own sense of who belongs. The church is not a gathering of the already-fixed. It is a table where the broken are welcomed, seen, and loved into wholeness.

Reflection Question: Who in your life have you been looking past rather than truly seeing? What assumptions have shaped the way you view them?

Practical Application: Identify one person in your community, workplace, or church who feels invisible or unwelcome. Take a deliberate step this week to acknowledge them, listen to them, or show them dignity.
