Seen and Known

Reading: Colossians 4:6 — This verse calls believers to let their speech always be seasoned with grace, attentive and thoughtful toward each individual person they encounter.
Devotional: When Jesus sat at the table with Levi and his friends, he did not arrive with a prepared lecture. He arrived with presence. He listened. He engaged. He saw people not as problems to correct but as souls to encounter. There is profound power in making someone feel genuinely seen and known. Many people sitting right beside you in daily life have never had anyone slow down long enough to truly hear their story. Grace-seasoned speech begins with grace-shaped listening. Before you can speak life into someone, you must first be willing to sit long enough to understand the weight they are already carrying.
Reflection Questions:
  • How well do you listen to the people around you before offering your perspective or correction?
  • Is there someone in your life whose story you have never truly taken the time to hear?
Practical Application: In your next meaningful conversation, resist the urge to respond quickly. Ask a follow-up question instead. Practice the discipline of listening with the intention of understanding rather than answering.
