Eternal Life Is Not Just a Destination
Reading: John 17:3 — Jesus, in his prayer before the crucifixion, defines eternal life not merely as life after death but as knowing God the Father and Jesus Christ whom he has sent.
Devotional: Eternal life is not simply a ticket to heaven that you tuck away and forget about until you need it. John makes clear that eternal life is knowing Jesus. It is a present, active, ongoing relationship with the one who was in the beginning, who came to earth, who was seen and touched and heard, and who now lives in you through his Spirit. Knowing Jesus means talking to him in the morning. It means crying out to him when you are hurting. It means going to him before you go to sleep. It means he is the first thought and the last. If that description feels unfamiliar, today is a good day to begin. Not perfectly. Just honestly.
Reflection Question: Based on how you actually live day to day, would someone watching your life conclude that you know Jesus personally, or simply that you know about him?
Practical Application: Set aside fifteen minutes today with no agenda other than to be with Jesus. No requests. No lists. Simply be with him and let that be enough.
