The Necessity of Fellowship
Reading: Hebrews 10:24-25 — The writer urges believers not to give up meeting together, as some have made a habit of doing, but instead to encourage one another, and to do so with greater urgency as the day of Christ's return approaches.
Devotional: There is a convincing lie that sounds almost spiritual: that you can follow Jesus entirely on your own. You cannot. John writes that what he proclaims is so that his readers may have fellowship with one another, and that fellowship is ultimately rooted in fellowship with the Father and the Son. The church is not a building you attend when convenient. It is a body you belong to, a family you do life with, a community where your testimony finds a home and where someone else's testimony finds you at exactly the right moment. Fellowship is where faith is tested, stretched, and strengthened. It is also where grace is made visible in the way broken people choose to love one another anyway.
Reflection Question: Are you genuinely connected to a community of believers, or are you attending church without truly belonging to one?
Practical Application: Reach out this week to one person from your church community. Not to ask for anything. Simply to check in, encourage, or pray together.
