Grace That Cannot Be Earned

Reading: Ephesians 2:4-9 -- Paul writes that God, being rich in mercy and because of his great love, made us alive together with Christ even when we were dead in our sins. He emphasizes that salvation is a gift, not something achieved through human effort, so that no one can boast.

Devotional: There is no buffet price at Jesus' table. You do not arrive and scramble to cover your portion. Grace is already paid, already prepared, already waiting. Many people spend years trying to earn what God has already freely given. They perform, they strive, they clean themselves up before they dare approach him. But grace does not work that way. It meets you in your mess. It finds you in your failure. The moment you stop trying to earn what cannot be earned and simply receive what has already been given, everything changes. That is the nature of grace -- scandalous, undeserved, and completely transforming.

Reflection: In what ways have you been trying to earn God's approval rather than resting in the grace he has already extended to you?

Practical Application: Write down three things you have been striving to do in order to feel worthy of God's love. Beside each one, write the words "Already Paid." Carry that paper with you this week as a reminder.
